Durufle: Requiem – Classic FM Magazine
All that’s best about the British amateur choral tradition comes across in this excellent recording, from the total commitment shown by the Vasari Singers to the obvious care paid by Jeremy Backhouse to matters of detail and discipline. In terms of repertoire, the album’s clear selling point centres on the Durufle Requiem. Anyone unfamiliar with the work or in search of a strongly conceived recording of its version for choir and organ will not be disappointed. But it is the choice and execution of companion pieces, especially Grünenwald’s dark-hued De Profundis setting that stamp this release with top quality hallmarks.
